Rumor Round-Up: Resident Evil 5 Controversy, SOE E3 Plans, and LucasArts Layoffs!

None

The Rumor Round-Up summarizes and highlights the most important gaming related gossip over the past week. This weekly article, in conjunction with the Week in Review, will keep you plugged in and in-tune.

A trailer for Resident Evil 5 was released this week and the game looks great. At the end of the new trailer we are introduced to Chris Redfield’s partner. That’s right; her inclusion in the game has sparked an internet-wide debate as to Capcom’s motivations. Most feel that the publisher succumbed to pressures levied at them due to the racial insensitivity of a Caucasian male mowing through waves of Africans. As such, the diminutive and very attractive African will accompany him through the grim world deflecting more than just oncoming zombie attacks!

Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) has hinted of having big plans for E3. According to a letter they sent out to the press, “Sony Online Entertainment, the company that brought you epic adventures in EverQuest and EverQuest II, has something new up its cape, um…we mean sleeve, at this year’s E3 Media and Business Summit!” It sounds like a new superhero MMORPG may be in the works.

A rumor concerning widespread layoffs at LucasArts has been confirmed by former employees, but not LucasArts. Just days after the launch of LEGO: Indiana Jones, nearly 100 souls including lead producer, Shawn Storc were shown the door. According to Kotaku, “up to 80% of staff has been laid off in departments such as Production Services, which includes QA and Compliance, with jobs planned to be outsourced overseas.”

Thanks so much everyone and we will see you next week!
