Microsoft, in an attempt to continue to weasel their way into the JRPG market, revealed several awesome titles in Tokyo today. The Xbox 360 RPG Premiere 2008 unveiled six mouthwatering Namco Bandai, Square Enix, and Microsoft Game Studios titles that are sure to please fans of the genre. Some of the games will be 360 exclusives, while others will simply be initially released for the system. This aggressive stance by Microsoft should help them pick up market share in Japan, and has left Sony fans in the U.S. scratching their heads. Below we’ve included details from the press releases about each title and an upcoming bundle:
Namco Bandai TALES OF VESPERIA will be sold in Japan as part of a game-specific hardware bundle. The bundle will include the game, a faceplate, and a script and will cost Japanese gamers the equivalent of $360. The use of cel-shaded graphics looks impressive and gives the title an uncanny anime feel. It will hits store shelves on August 7th in Japan, late-August in the U.S., and sometime in 2009 for Europe.
Square Enix STAR OCEAN: THE LAST HOPE is the latest entry in the futuristic space opera RPG series STAR OCEAN. The game is scheduled for a global release in 2009.
THE LAST REMNANT is the first RPG in a new series brought to you by Square Enix’s next generation creators and scheduled for a global release this winter on the Xbox 360. This title was original scheduled for a multiplatform release, but now it will be a 360 exclusive.
INFINITE UNDISCOVERY is a collaborative project with fan favorite development studio tri-Ace Inc. (STAR OCEAN and VALKYRIE PROFILE). The title will feature fast-paced, real-time gameplay. It will be released worldwide in September with the North American version shipping from 2nd September, available across Europe and other PAL territories on 5th September and released in Japan on 11th September. Microsoft Game Studios FABLE 2 & MASS EFFECT will get a Japanese release. No other details were revealed. |
