Sony Backs AST Dew Tour for the Fourth Straight Year

None

When it comes to action sports, Sony is all over it. For the fourth straight year Sony will sponsor the AST Dew Tour. Sony has found the tour to be a worthwhile marketing vehicle, while aligning them with action sports. Below you’ll find all of the details of the events to come and the various tour stop locations and dates:

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) today announced its fourth year of aligning with the AST Dew Tour, the world’s premier season-long action sports tour, to reinforce their commitment to the action sports community and to offer new interactive activities to engage fans. The five-city tour kicks off on June 19 in Baltimore, Md. and wraps up on October 19 at the PlayStation Pro in Orlando, Fla. At each stop, the AST Dew Tour will offer sports fans ongoing action through several events including skate (park and vert), BMX (park, vert, and dirt), and freestyle motocross.

As part of SCEA’s dedication to promoting action sports, the top six pro moments from each event’s competition will be selected and the videos will be featured on AST.com for consumers to vote on their favorite. Each month PlayStation will announce a pro athlete winner who will receive $5000 along with a PlayStation 3 (PS3) and a selection of games. The five winning pro athletes will also pick the next up-and-coming amateur athlete from the “PlayStation Rising Stars,” presented by Woodward Camp. All competitions will be filmed and segments will be available on PlayStation.com.

“We’re absolutely committed to delivering memorable experiences to our consumers and the action sports community through our PlayStation brand,” said Donna Armentor, senior manager of Lifesyle Alliances for SCEA. “It’s a great pleasure to join the AST Dew Tour once again and to help extend an action-packed experience for sports fans both via gaming and in real-life.”

At each tour stop, PlayStation will provide fans a chance to be part of the action through hands-on challenges and access to the latest PS3 and PSP (PlayStation Portable) software titles. The redesigned, award-winning PlayStation Experience truck will be on-site to offer a new interactive gaming environment that features stages for fans to rock out to Rock Band at the “Take the Stage with Rock Band” area as well as sing along with SingStar on PS3 at the “Show Us Your Vocals” area. Other interactive gaming areas will feature the exclusive for PS3, highly anticipated LittleBigPlanet and PlayStation Network hits PAIN and PixelJunk Monsters. Qualified fans also get a chance to compete in the PlayStation “Play the Pro’s” competition where they will face off against select pro athletes on PlayStation games to win cool PlayStation prizes. Also, a dedicated PSP zone will showcase God of War: Chains of Olympus and Secret Agent Clank, and multi-functionality features such as remote play and Internet radio.

“We’re thrilled to have PlayStation return for their fourth year with the AST Dew Tour,” said Wade Martin, president of AST. “Gaming and action sports go hand in hand and we look forward to continued collaboration.”

At the final stop of this year’s AST Dew Tour, an award will be given to the “PlayStation Player of the Year,” to recognize the pro athlete that best represents themselves within and outside the action sports community. On behalf of the winner, PlayStation will donate $5,000 to the Athlete Recovery Fund.
