Signs including a wicked poster for the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational in Paris have teased that Diablo 3 is in development. We are awaiting official confirmation at this weekend’s Paris event, but it seems inevitable that the beloved dungeon crawling RPG will soon be on the gaming horizon.

The icy splash page that so many have speculated to be Diablo 3 now looks like it is most likely announcing the StarCraft MMO. The folks over at Ripten have put together a few nice screen comparisons that seem to be more convincing than the Diablo 3 proponents’ argument. The icy blue orbs seem to belong to a Protoss, and the rune appears to be a Protoss symbol.

In other Blizzard news, according to product postings at BestBuy and GameStop, StarCraft II should be expected before the end of the year. In fact, these sites have gone as far as giving the game a specific date of December 3, 2008. This could change, but it looks like early December is a pretty solid starting point for the re-envisioned Blizzard classic.

If unconfirmed scans of the next issue of Nintendo Power are to be believed, Mega Man 9 will come to WiiWare and feature an 8-bit blue bomber and a solid list of potential enemies including Magma Man, Galaxy Man, Jewel Man, Concrete Man, Hornet Man, Plug Man, Tornado Man, and Splash Woman.

Two “screenshots” were posted on the PS3 Fanboy website this week that show a multi-tiered trophy system for the PS3 along with avatars like Clank and some dude with a fro. Sony has not confirmed whether they are real or not, but by the amateurish look of them, we highly doubt it. Interestingly, the rumor persists and many sources insist the screens are real. According to rumors brought out by Eurogamer, it looks like God of War III is far enough along that it will get some air time at this year’s E3. Stay tuned for more on that as we report to you direct from E3.

Furthermore, Kratos may be headed to a Sony console near you before the releasing of GoW III. In the Quartermann column of the current issue of EGM, it is suggested that Kratos may make an appearance in the Sony version of Soulcalibur IV.

According to European VP of Marketing for Microsoft, David Gosen, The Xbox 360 has eclipsed the 5 million units sold mark in Europe. Ostensibly, this means that Microsoft has nearly a 750,000 unit edge over Sony. However, it’s difficult to know exactly who’s leading in overall units sold. In fact, many of you may remember Sony European honcho, David Reeves, claim that Sony was winning in Europe several weeks back at PlayStation Day. As such, Microsoft and Sony really are neck and neck.

Finally, it has been widely rumored that Microsoft will cut the price of the 20 GB version of the Xbox 360 ahead of the holiday season. According to scans of a K-Mart circular released on the forums at High-Def Digest, we may see a $50 price cut before E3. That would bring the console from $ 349.99 to 299.99 MSRP .

Thanks so much everyone and we will see you next week!
