Tecmo Looks to Join Koei Rather than Square Enix

None

Last week we reported on the very generous buy-out offer presented by Square Enix to Tecmo. That offer would have paid Tecmo a 30% premium to their share price. This prospective merger also promised to lend the ailing development company a spot of legitimacy in the wake of recent turmoil.

In an unexpected move, Tecmo has decided to shun the Square Enix offer and instead has decided to enter into talks with Koei, makers of Dynasty Warriors (and little else). The merger between these two mid-level companies should help them to rid themselves of redundancies and become more profitable in an increasingly competitive global market.

Unfortunately for gamers, the pairing of Tecmo and Square Enix was a far more promising partnership, as Koei is known for its lack of IP diversity and creativity. Hopefully, pre-conceptions will be proved wrong if they do in fact merge.
