The Fudd to Revolutionize Hunting Sims*

Rednecks, rifles….and RAM? The new trend in hunting is computer-based “virtu-real” hunting where the results are real but the actual hunting is virtual, conducted from the comfort and safety of your living room couch.

Developers, ShootemUp have devised PC-based hardware and software that will allow hunting enthusiasts to ply their sport from virtually anywhere in the world. All that’s required in the initial set up is a physical trip to the location of the hunters’ choice to install the system which consists of a satellite link, camera, solar charger and batteries, and the remote controlled firearms system. Named The Fudd, (for Elmer Fudd) this system is easy to set up. When placed on location, it’s virtually impossible to detect by animals or other hunters due to the high tech camouflaging features. A 360-degree rotating camera affords you the perfect view of your surroundings. When you locate your prey, simply target it by engaging the highly maneuverable firearm turret and hit Enter on your keyboard. A successful kill will require another physical trip to the location to pick up your trophy.

“Let’s face it,” says head developer Dustin Twern, “Old school hunting is boring, dirty, and laborious. Kids these days don’t want to trudge through some cold, mucky forest with clunky rifles, rubber boots and nerdy clothing. That’s not cool. We are a new generation. We’re the internet poker generation. We’ve proven we can do anything on the computer, and better than anyone else has ever done it before. New we’re going to prove that we can hunt with the best of them while chill-laxing at home,” Twern says.

The Fudd can be used to hunt anything from duck to big game. Bear baiters can set the entire system high atop a tree. A motion detection system will alert the hunter when an animal approaches, eliminating countless hours of monotonous waiting. The firearm turret is adaptable to replicate any kind of gun. Ammo is stored in a special compartment and reloaded as required. The turret can shoot in virtually any direction but the developers are quick to point out that the system cannot be made to fire automatically. This is to eliminate the dangers of accidentally killing unintended prey or a human. The Fudd is powered by a series of solar batteries wired to a solar panel so that they will always remain charged. The batteries ensure noiseless operation of all mechanized parts.

“The Fudd is just the beginning of a long line of remote-access “virtu-real” systems that we are in the process of designing,” claims Twern. “There are a lot of mundane hobbies and interests that can be better performed from home such as model airplane flying, stock car racing, voting, and spraying graffiti on buildings. It’s a new world, and we’re making it newer,” Twern concludes.
