Japan Getting Kingdom Hearts HD

Japan Getting Kingdom Hearts HD

Square Enix has just announced another Kingdom Hearts game. No, it’s not Kingdom Hearts 3. No, it’s not another spin-off either. It’s actually an HD remix of existing Kingdom Hearts titles updated for the PlayStation 3.

The new HD collection is titled Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX. It’s numbered 1.5 because it focuses on the events that happen between Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2. The collection will include Kingdom Hearts Final Mix with an option to use the Japanese voice track, and Kingdom Hearts Re; Chain of Memories. Both are updated with HD graphics and will include full trophy support.

In addition, the game will also include all of the cutscenes from Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days, though the game itself will not be playable. These cutscenes have been upgraded to HD and can be viewed in the game’s theater mode. There is no word on whether or not these will have to be unlocked or if they will be available from the start.

The game will come out next year in Japan. There is currently no word on whether or not it will be coming to America or Europe.

It’s nice that Square Enix is giving us a chance to replay some of our favorite Kingdom Hearts games, but most Kingdom Hearts fans are still eagerly awaiting Kingdom Heats 3, which was rumored to begin development after Final Fantasy Versus XIII, which we haven’t heard anything about in a long long while. Will we ever see a true sequel to Kingdom Hearts 2? Who knows?
