Dark Souls 60FPS Unlock Out And Updated

Dark Souls 60FPS Unlock Out And Updated

Three tremendous issues plagued the Dark Souls PC version’s launch: a 30FPS limit, a maximum render resolution of 1280×720, and Games for Windows Live integration. At this point, two of those have been addressed.

First, a resolution unlock was released. Composed within half an hour of the game’s launch, it immediately got off the ground and vastly improved the graphical fidelity of the game’s PC version (the primary reason to want the title on PC at all).

Now, a frame rate unlock is out, allowing Dark Souls to run at 60FPS on the PC. Further, its most recent version has been updated so that it runs alongside GFWL and DSFix versions 1.1-1.4, which allow for not only an increased resolution, but downsampling via SSAO and AA.

It would have been best if From Software had handed off the PC port of Dark Souls to a developer who’d have gotten this all right out the gate, but it’s great to see that the fan base has stepped up to make the game everything it should have been in the first place, and so quickly.
