Tekken Tag Tournament 2’s Background Offends Fans

Tekken Tag Tournament 2’s Background Offends Fans

Some fans have pointed out that Allah’s name is printed on tiles in the Saudi Arabia stage in Tekken Tag Tournament 2. The name is printed across the tiny star tiles on the floor, barely able to be read if you don’t actively zoom in and search for it. It’s certainly not noticeable during a match, and according to Harada, not even he knew the name was printed there.

Producer Katsuhiro Harada said that the Tekken team will change the stage design data as soon as possible. Since you can’t notice the name during a match in the first place, it could easily be removed without anyone even noticing the stage has changed.

This whole situation is eerily similar to an issue that Infinity Ward had with a picture frame in the Favela Modern Warfare 2 map .

This brings up some interesting questions. Do the stage designers in these games actually know they are putting Allah’s name in their graphics? If so, why are they doing this? If not, are they just putting in any old Arabic writing they can find?
