Doom 3 Bursts Back Onto Steam

Doom 3 Bursts Back Onto Steam

Last month, following the release of the Doom 3 BFG Edition, which included a reworked version of the original game and its Resurrection of Evil expansion pack (along with a short, entirely original chapter), Bethesda removed the original version of the title and its expansion from the Steam store. This resulted in a notable uproar not only because the BFG version of the game is more expensive, but because it’s incompatible with mods, while the original game thrived on that community.

id Software’s response was almost immediate, if unsatisfying. They’d “look into” a solution.

Today, that solution has come to fruition. Both the original version of Doom 3 and the BFG Edition are available for purchase on the Steam store, the former either on its own or alongside the Resurrection of Evil expansion pack. It’s a tremendous victory for those in the Doom 3 mod community, or simply those who want to experience what might be an underappreciated horror classic in its unabridged, unaltered form.
