LEGO Lord of the Rings finally hit the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 today, but some Xbox 360 buyers quickly discovered that their case did not contain exactly what they had expected.
Rather than an Xbox 360 copy of the latest LEGO game, the disc within was merely a demo. Luckily, it’s labeled as such, so one can always check it before leaving the store. Plus, it’s probably not going to be a problem for long, given that affected shipments have been recalled.
Be aware: the mix-up only affects certain shipments of the game. Most of the titles have arrived, as expected, with the full title safely sealed away behind shrink-wrap and green plastic. There are also no reports of a similar issue plaguing the PlayStation 3.
Between this and the Mass Effect 2/Black Ops II mix-up on PC, it’s been a rough day in retail.

Warner Bros. has released a statement indicating that the affected Xbox 360 discs do, in fact, contain a pressing of the full game, despite having the incorrect art. Those affected, however, can contact Warner Bros. Games directly. Full statement follows:
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is recalling a small number of LEGO The Lord of the Rings video games that were released for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft to Walmart, Target and Toys ‘R’ Us in the United States with a disc labeling error. The discs in question are incorrectly labeled as demo discs, but those discs do contain the full game content and are fully functional. This error does not affect any other formats of the game. We are in the process of remanufacturing the discs and will get them to the stores as soon as possible.
