Nintendo Reveals The Wii Mini

Nintendo Reveals The Wii Mini

For those of you who are late-blooming, budget-conscious gamers, Nintendo is rolling out a Wii Mini. The Wii Mini is exactly what it sounds like, an ultra-small Wii. It’s a top-loading console, much like the slim PS2, and must lay flat. Unfortunately, the Wii Mini does not come with the same GameCube backward compatibility that the Wii had. And, worse yet, it doesn’t even come with Wi-Fi support.

The Wii Mini has been announced as a Canada-only holiday exclusive and will retail for $99 dollars. We Americans will still have to splurge on the traditional Wii, or just splurge on a Wii U when the new shipments arrive. Believe it or not, this is the second Wii redesign that America didn’t get. Europe also received a new Wii in a Family Edition bundle, which did support Wi-Fi but did not support GameCube compatibility.

Nintendo director of product marketing Bill Trinen has said that the Wii is still a viable platform because of its huge catalog and fan base. So we may see some Wii games still hit the market. However, Wii software production has been slowing for years. So, the safest bet is to just bite the bullet and get a Wii U ASAP.
