Star Wars: Battlefront III Was 99% Completed

According to GamesTM magazine, Star Wars: Battlefront III was 99 percent complete before it was canceled. Free Radical cofounder Steve Ellis told GamesTM “We had a 99 percent finished game that just needed bug fixing for release. It should have been our most successful game, but it was cancelled for financial reasons.”

“We were making a game with very high ambition,” Ellis said. “You could start a battle on the ground, jump into a ship and fly into space, continuing on to dock in a capital ship and continue the battle there. We’d had to build all kinds of new tech and overcome numerous technical challenges and limitations but we had done it.”

So out there somewhere exists a somewhat buggy but totally playable version of Star Wars: Battlefront III and it just isn’t being released because it’s apparently more cost effective to cancel a game that has been in development for years, than it is to see the project completed. That says something about our industry, and it doesn’t say anything good.
