Animal Crossing: New Leaf Sells 2 Million Copies

Animal Crossing: New Leaf Sells 2 Million Copies

The wait for Animal Crossing: New Leaf has been a bit unbearable. The game has been praised by critics in the land of the rising sun, and consumers seems to love it as well.

The latest weekly sales report for Japanese games from Famitsu, show that Animal Crossing: New Leaf is the first Nintendo 3DS title to exceed 2 million units. This may not seem like a shock to some. After all, the 3DS is incredibly popular in Japan. But here’s the interesting note: the game sold 2 million copies in just over six weeks.

Six. Weeks.

This handy chart from a NeoGAF user shows just how quickly Animal Crossing shot up the sales charts. Titles like Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, and others have enjoyed steady success. But New Leaf has simply skyrocketed to 2 million. Through December 23rd, the total sales come in at 2.1 million. To compare, Pokemon Black and White 2 clocked in at 2.4 million across six weeks.

So Japan is in love with the new Animal Crossing. Perhaps one day, Americans can be too. Animal Crossing: New Leaf is currently scheduled for a Q1/Q2 2013 release.
