The War Z Hobbled By Hackers

The War Z Hobbled By Hackers

The War Z’s tumultuous passage to retail has been fraught with developer missteps, bad PR, and an almost disingenuous monetization system that severely hampers one’s ability. Well, now we can add “hacked servers” to the list of mishaps to befall the fledgling game.

Yesterday, a post by Kewk, the community manager of The War Z’s official forums, indicates that the servers had their DNS IP forcibly reset, making it impossible for players to connect. Once that problem had been addressed, though, the game’s login server was hit by a DDOS attack.

The problem was addressed the same day, though a subsequent code bug resulted in players getting kicked. Then Steam users began to encounter issues, all of which were finally fixed this morning.

Such issues can be absolutely devastating for a young product from an untested developer, turning away possible players and demanding resources that the developer may not be able to readily provide or replace. The War Z team’s response has been prompt thus far, but I doubt this is the last we’ll hear of attacks on the game.
