It looks as if the resurrection of the Medal of Honor franchise will be short lived. EA is now “taking Medal of Honor our of the rotation” after the poor performance of Warfighter. Though specific numbers are no available, EA COO Peter Moore said that Metal of Honor: Warfighter performed “Well below [EA’s] expectations. President of EA Labels, Frank Gibeau, said “we’re in a hit-driven business… and frankly we missed on Medal of Honor.”
EA saw net losses of 45 million dollars through is third quarter, which is actually up from last year where they encountered losses of 205 million dollars. It also doesn’t help that they were effectively splitting their own fanbase. EA already has a military first person shooter in Battlefield 3, which continues to be one of their biggest moneymakers. Battlefield 3 Premium has generated over 108 million dollars with 2.9 million subscribers at current count. If anyone were to leave the Battlefield franchise it would likely be for its chief competitor, Call of Duty, not another title by the same publisher. In a sense, EA effectively outcompeted themselves.
