ArmA 3 Will Be Steam Exclusive

ArmA 3 Will Be Steam Exclusive

ArmA 2 may not have the most popular game in the world. In fact, its popularity has far more to do with DayZ, everyone’s favorite zombie mod. Still, it sold enough copies to warrant a sequel.

And ArmA 3 will be Steam exclusive.

Yes, ArmA 3 will require Steam to run in all of its forms. There will be boxed copies of the game available on store shelves. However, these boxes will only contain Steam codes, or a DVD to aid installation. Once installed, though, the title still requires the Steam platform.

According to Bohemia Interactive, making the game a Steam exclusive was absolutely necessary in order to meet the planned 2013 release date. “As an independent developer, we’re constantly evaluating the way we develop, distribute and publish games,” Bohemia boss Marek Španel explained. “Valve made tremendous improvements to their system, which made the installation/update process much more user-friendly – for both developers and customers.”

Bohemia explained that they have been having difficulties in development after a “recent incident in Greece.” This refers to the fact that two of the game’s primary developers were arrested on charges of espionage and jailed for four months. What’s insane, though, is that Bohemia isn’t delaying the game at all. We’ve had millions of companies delay games for extraordinary silly reasons and Bohemia isn’t delaying their game even after their team members were literally incarcerated.

That’s hardcore.
