Layoffs Hit EA

Layoffs Hit EA

It seems as if every single developer in the gaming industry has undergone layoffs in recent days, even EA isn’t exempt. A recent report from Kotaku indicates that the studio will be enacting multiple layoffs across its Los Angeles and Montreal studios. An official number has not been given.

EA says that the layoffs would help the studio to “align staff and skills against priority growth areas.”  That being said, EA does expect their headcount to increase over the year, so perhaps it’s not a sign of the studio falling on hard times. EA has offered outplacement services and severance packages to help those affected by the layoffs.

EA President Frank Gibeau commented on the layoffs on a recent EA news post.

“[W]hen it is not possible to redeploy a team, we soften the tough decisions with assistance. This week we let some people go in Los Angeles, Montreal as well as in some smaller locations. These are good people and we have offered outplacement services and severance packages to ease their transition to a new job.”
