Kojima Almost Certainly Involved In The Phantom Pain

The mystery surrounding The Phantom Pain may have just become a little less confusing. Though, don’t get me wrong, we’re all still pretty confused.

Yesterday, Hideo Kojima, the man behind the Metal Gear franchise, spent a little time tweeting about something that all of the kids are talking about: lens flares.

“Watched the new trailer of  ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ and found lens flare on the credit part which made me laugh because I used lens flare on my GDC trailer as well. Well we’ve acknowledged each other that we both share the same fetichism on lens flare, and I guess that’s it.”

Later, Kojima sent out an illustration of his own lens flare usage, but there was something interesting about the picture. The pic, which was taken on a cell phone, is a screenshot of Kojima’s name on the credit roll for what appears to be an unfinished game. However, the interesting part has nothing to do with Kojima’s strange love for lens flare.

The file name, TPP_GDC2013_720p_ESRB, indicates that the package is a 720P version of something that will be shown at GDC next week, but it also contains the letters TPP . Ever since The Phantom Pain was revealed at the Spike Video Game Awards, people have been speculating about the possibility of it being apart of the Metal Gear franchise, and this might be some of the first real evidence for the connection.

Obviously, Kojima hasn’t made any kind of official announcement, but it looks like we might get a little more information next week.
