EA Discontinues Several Social Games

EA Discontinues Several Social Games

EA has announced that three of its social titles will be discontinued on June 14 th . The Sims Social, SimCity Social, and Pet Society are all on the chopping block, and each was specifically developed for Facebook by Playfish, which EA acquired in November 2009.

Many of these games haven’t been around for very long. SimCity Social was announced at E3 2012, which means that it’ll be canceled before it’s first birthday.

Many companies are slowly realizing that the social/casual gaming bubble is starting to burst. People are less willing to invest in microtransactions these days, so more gamers are simply giving up on their favorite social titles.

This news comes after EA announced a second set of layoffs to their casual/social division. Right now it is unclear if these layoffs had any effect the discontinuation of Sims Social, SimCity Social, and Pet Society.
