Following a recent promotional campaign in Japan—in which Microsoft encouraged players to hop on Xbox Live and play a few select games for the promise of free Live service—the company has made Xbox Live Gold free to all US, Canada, Latin America and Japanese players until April 22.
How this freebie will affect current Gold subscribers has yet to be confirmed. It may add time to their current subscription, or it may not benefit them in the least.
Whatever the case, this giveaway reminds us that Xbox Live is not a free service, and gives the PlayStation 3 and Wii U networks even more bragging rights.
