Come on, Nintendo. I thought we were past this. I was under the impression that we had agreed that adults could make their own decisions about what sort of content excited them. Yet here you are, revealing that a CG scene of Tharja, taken from an upcoming piece of DLC for Fire Emblem: Awakening, will be censored in North America.
Known as “Summer Scramble,” the image in question features Tharja adjusting the pants of her swimsuit, facing away from the camera. In the North American version, a foreground drapery blocks out the entirety of the suit and most of her hands. The image doesn’t suddenly buck its suggestive nature by virtue of this change, it just prevents Nintendo from showing an honest-to-goodness behind on screen.
It’s not a major deal. In the end, it’s just titillation. But it does go back to an odd precedent, wherein Nintendo wants to project a specific image of themselves that is somewhat at odds with some of the content they create.
