As has become par for the course with Team Ninja games, Dead or Alive 5 is receiving an expanded edition. Officially announced in Famitsu, and accompanied by a teaser trailer, this updated version of the game will include Momiji, of Ninja Gaiden fame, as a playable character.
Though Momiji was originally introduced in the Nintendo DS entry, Dragon Sword, her style has changed since then from a carbon copy of Ryu Hayabusa’s to one centered around a naginata and support spells. One is left to wonder how her combat form will mesh with those of the other ninja in the game, and whether or not she and Ryu will have unique combo attacks in tag mode (as is traditionally the case for story-connected characters in DOA). It is also not yet known if other new characters will be joining Momiji.
Lacking a specific release date, Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate is slated to be “coming soon” on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
