Sega And Nintendo Enter Three-Title Sonic Exclusivity Agreement

Sega And Nintendo Enter Three-Title Sonic Exclusivity Agreement

If I told you that Sonic the Hedgehog would one day appear exclusively on a Nintendo console twenty years ago, you’d probably say I was crazy. But this isn’t 1993; it’s 2013.

Today, SEGA and Nintendo announced that the next three entries in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise would be exclusive to both the Wii U and 3DS. These games include Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, the recently announced Sonic: Lost World, and a third game that has yet to be revealed.

Both SEGA and Nintendo sound happy to begin this partnership between former rivals.

“Sonic the Hedgehog has performed incredibly well on Nintendo platforms and this exclusive partnership is a natural fit for the next evolution of Sonic games,” said Jurgen Post, COO of SEGA Europe.

“We hope fans are as excited as we are when more details will be shown closer to E3,” added Nintendo of Europe’s Laurent Fischer.

Sonic: Lost World will be a traditional entry in the Sonic franchise. If it’s anything like the past two entries in the series, Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations, then Nintendo has secured a respectable third party exclusive.
