EA Says That Next Gen Consoles Are More Powerful Than PCs

PC gaming and console gaming have always been at odds. While console gaming was simpler and easier to understand, PC gamers swore by the power of their platform. However, if EA’s CTO, Rajat Teneja, is right, the tables have turned.

“These architectures are a generation ahead of the highest end PC on the market,” said Teneja in a recent article on LinkedIn. “Our benchmarks on just the video and audio performance are 8-10 times superior to the current gen. The compute capabilities of these platforms and the data transfer speeds we can now bank on, essentially removes any notion of rationing of systems resources for our game engines.”

Teneja went on to talk about the possibilities of the upcoming gaming generations. Sports games will be able to update their stats in real time. Game worlds can change overnight based on player actions. Graphics engines will be able to produce far more vivid and realistic characters and locales than ever before.

However, the buzz word for this generation is social . According to Teneja, games will be inherently more social, even if they aren’t connected to social networks in any way. The very fact that gamers are investing so much of their time into online, multiplayer games is proof of that.

Then again, PC gaming has had these social features for years now. So is console gaming really steps ahead of PC gaming? Or will the PC market catch up in a few years or so? What do you think?
