EA Clarifies Wii U Plans

It seemed like another nail in the Wii U’s coffin last month when EA’s Jeff Brown stated, unambiguously, that “[they] have no games in development for the Wii U currently.” As one of the most prolific publishers in the world, second in market share only to Activision, EA’s support is still critical in making a console a mainstream success.

Don’t start playing a funeral dirge just yet, though. At the Stifel Nicolaus 2013 Internet, Media, and Communications Conference, EA’s Blake Jorgensen said that the publisher is working on Wii U titles, though far fewer than for the PlayStation and Xbox systems.

Though he did not state whether he was referring to the current gen consoles or the upcoming PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, it seems likely that EA is approaching development for the next-gen consoles from a cautious perspective, saying, “… It’ll remain to be seen as to the services associated with those as to how consumers decide which direction they might want to go.”
