Xbox One Games Were Not Running On PC Hardware At E3

One of the most popular rumors from E3 was that every Xbox One demo was actually running on a high-end PC. The rumor started when an image surfaced that apparently showed the Lococycle demo crashing and returning to the Windows 7 screen, which of course wouldn’t be present on the Xbox One hardware.

There’s just one small problem with this rumor: it isn’t true.

Lococycle was running on a PC due to the fact that the game hasn’t fully ported over to the Xbox One just yet.

The controversy comes from Jonathan Blow, creator of Braid and The Witness, Tweeting that all games in the Microsoft booth were running on PCs, not Xbox One devkits. Naturally, the internet (Reddit) ran wild with this rumor. However, Twisted Pixel’s Michael Wilfrod responded to the Tweet, saying that the team decided to put Lococycle on the PC because it wasn’t successfully running on Xbox One hardware just yet. Blow was also replied by several people who saw games clearly running on Xbox One hardware.

What’s most baffling about this rumor is the fact that this isn’t necessary uncommon. I saw games running on devkits and PCs for both systems; this is a complete non-issue that unfortunately became “news.”
