Square Enix Comments On Legacy Of Kain Cancellation

Square Enix Comments On Legacy Of Kain Cancellation

2012’s cancellation of Legacy of Kain: Dead Sun came as a letdown to many, but the resurgence of the game’s multiplayer component brought on a very different reaction. After hearing the news that Square Enix’s new title Nosgoth strongly resembled Dead Sun , the miners over at NeoGAF started digging for answers. To the Internet’s surprise, the investigation yielded something beyond rumors and hazy photos. In fact, the findings were prominent enough to provoke a direct comment from Square Enix community manager George Kelion.

In response to NeoGAF user Mama Robotnik’s findings , Kelion confirmed “that Dead Sun was a project which had been in development—but which was cancelled.” Explaining the cancellation, he continued, saying “I know it’s disappointing to hear about these things out of context, and whilst some of the details released are accurate – some details are not. You know game projects can be cancelled for a variety of different reasons and I know it’s very hard to tell from images and info alone, but in the end LOK: Dead Sun just wasn’t the right game, at the right time… but you’ll have to take me at my word on that, I’m afraid.”

Out of charity or sadism, Kelion was also nice enough to include an official bit of concept art for Dead Sun , seen above.
