The War Z Changes Its Name To Infestation: Survival Stories

The War Z Changes Its Name To Infestation: Survival Stories

The War Z, the DayZ ripoff that was pulled from Steam shortly after its release for advertising violations, is attempting to rebrand itself. In fact, they are choosing the new name specifically to distance themselves from DayZ and other “similarly titled brands.” Developer Hammerpoint Interactive had this to say about the change.

“The War Z, has officially changed its name to Infestation: Survivor Stories today, in part to help fans differentiate the popular game from similarly titled brands. OP Productions initially filed The War Z trademark early last year, but soon found out from the United States Patent and Trademark Office that the name was comparable to another property. After months of trying to resolve the issue, OP Productions decided the best option to avoid confusion among players was to rename the game. Current players will not experience any change or interruption with the exception of the change in name and game logo.”

The game has since been reinstated on Steam, so if you really want to try what was considered one of the worst releases of last year, you can check it out for yourself. To be fair, Hammerpoint has been very apologetic about its misleading advertisements and they have worked hard to fix many game issues since its release, but it still pales in comparison to DayZ.
