Journey Breaks A Profit At Last

Journey Breaks A Profit At Last

Journey drew a lot of attention when it finally came out last year, after a long and arduous development cycle. The latest game from Flow and Flower developer thatgamecompany, Journey combined a distinctive aesthetic with an anonymous form of drop-in/drop-out co-op play. It became one of the must-play downloadable titles on the PlayStation 3.

It managed to make its money back last year, but its development had bankrupted the studio behind it.

Only now, after a rerelease as part of a retail bundle, has thatgamecompany begun to see royalties from the title. This is the sort of tale that toes the line between inspiring and terrifying, that combination of indie success with the sort of near-failure that has left members of the development team unpaid.
