The Mythical Half-Life 3 Becomes More Real

After the sudden Reddit emergence of photos revealing Left 4 Dead 3 in Valve’s development log, RockPaperShotgun has confirmed, via “multiple sources, who wished to remain anonymous,” that the images referring to “L4D3” and the Source 2 engine are indeed genuine. It’s certainly not an announcement trailer, but we can now more confidently assume that we’ll be seeing another cooperative zombie fest in the coming years, presumably running on Source 2.

Incidentally, the rumor-ridden topic of Half-Life 3 has also reared its head amidst all the commotion. However, unlike countless past what-ifs, this spotting looks to be more than fan-fiction ravings and acronym confusion. Valve’s bug-tracking and management system “Jira” has seen a no-holds exposure over at ValveTime , which revealed back in June project listings alluding to “Left 4 Dead 3” and “Half-Life 3” as well as a Source 2 archive.  Now that more evidence appeared in support of the theory Valve is working on Left 4 Dead 3 and a Source 2 engine, it gives, by association, more legitimacy to the Half-Life 3 rumors.

The community over at VT has compiled all 791 topics into a Pastebin listing, found here .

Sure, Valve fans have already won the sequel lottery and entered a promising ticket into the next drawing, but I’m still holding out for a Portal 3 .
