Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Designed for Smartphone Interaction/User-Created Missions

Snake is going open world in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Instead of taking on missions level by level, Snake will simply have to travel to different locales, like you would expect out of a Grand Theft Auto game or something. However, Metal Gear Solid V will be giving a whole new meaning of sandbox game. You won’t only be playing the missions in a gigantic open world, you will be making them as well. This is all part of The Phantom Pain’s interactivity suite with mobile devices like smartphones and tablets. “All the freedom is up to you and there are no rules [like] the linear games in the past,” Kojima said to Official Playstation Magazine at E3. “You can use smartphones and tablets to interact with the world. That’s why we did an open world, because we thought about all these interactions on multiple devices… Using tablets and smartphones you can also enjoy MGS V and create user-generated missions within the world.”

Being able to create your own missions would certainly be a first in the stealth genre. But would it really feel like Metal Gear Solid? After all, what is a Metal Gear game without Kojima’s off-the-wall, anime-inspired writing? Frankly, I don’t think that the user base can come up with ideas like a man who is being controlled by the genetics of his replacement arm.
