NVIDIA Claims that Next-Gen Graphics Can’t Touch PC Graphics

According to the folks at NVIDIA, PC gaming has now and will forever outshine the consoles in both power and graphics. Tony Tamasi, who is SVP of content and technology at NVIDIA, gave an interview to PC PowerPlay and had plenty to say on the subject . He states: “If you look inside those boxes, they’re both powered by graphics technology by AMD or NVIDIA, because by that time all the graphics innovation was being done by PC graphics companies. NVIDIA spends 1.5 billion US dollars per year on research and development in graphics, every year, and in the course of a consoles life cycle we’ll spend over 10 billion dollars into graphics research. Sony and Microsoft simply can’t afford to spend that kind of money.”

It’s no surprise that console gaming has always been in the forefront of the marketplace when it comes to graphic innovations. At the beginning of each new launch cycle, you’d be hard pressed to find a more powerful graphics GPU than what consoles like the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 would offer.

Now, Tamasi claims the PC has broken through the glass ceiling to where the consoles will never again touch them on any of those fronts.

In regards to the lack of power found in modern consoles compared to the PC, Tamasi also said, “You’re not going to get anything that is significantly more power efficient in a console. There’s no way a 200W Xbox is going to be beat a 1000W PC.”
