Microsoft Expects to Beat Sony in the Games Category

Microsoft expects to win out in the one area that it feels is ultimately more important: games.

With the next generation of consoles upon us, it seems that Sony may have a slight advantage out of the gate this time around. It not only plans to launch the PS4 before the Xbox One (and with a price tag $100 less than its competitor), but anonymous sources say the PlayStation 4 also runs slightly faster as well.

Corporate VP Phil Harrison is of course unfazed, telling Edge: “…every platform I’ve ever been involved in somebody has said ‘oh, this has got more gigaflops or more teraflops than the other one,’ and at the end of the day it never really matters. It’s all about having the best games and having the most impressive experiences, and clearly Xbox One has the best games.”

Granted, the Xbox One has yet to prove its muscle against its rival, it does seem strange that we’re seeing a VP at Microsoft defend its hardware by saying the software is what really counts. Last I checked, Microsoft knew a thing or two about PC development, so seeing questions about the power of their hardware at this early stage of the game really has me scratching my head. Shouldn’t Sony be the one on its heels, explaining why its hardware can’t match the Microsoft powerhouse?
