Super Mario Galaxy Stage Revealed for New Smash Bros.

Super Mario Galaxy Stage Revealed for New Smash Bros.

Masahiro Sakurai, director for the new Wii U and 3DS versions of Super Smash Bros , has made a new post on Miiverse about a brand new stage modeled after Super Mario Galaxy . The stage takes place on one of Galaxy’s planetoids, gently curving from left to right. However, curved stages aren’t all that interesting. It’s the fact that the planetoid has its own spherical gravitational pull that really mixes up the mechanics of the game. Now, if you knock someone off the side, they won’t simply fall into the abyss. They will instead fall right back toward the planetoid. The only way to secure a kill is to knock the opponent clear off the screen.

The planetoid’s curve also affects the way projectiles operate. In the picture, we can see Samus standing at a point below where Mario is. If she fired off her beam cannon under normal conditions, it would simply fly off the stage up and two the left. But the planet’s gravity causes it to curve around toward Mario, who was then able to reflect it.

It’s unclear what other stage hazards this planetoid has to offer, but it’s possible that it could become the next “Final Destination,” as it even removes edge hogging and other recovery tricks from the game. We will bring you more information on the release of Super Smash Bros. as it becomes available.
