Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and 3 Being Taken Down from PSN and XBLA

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and 3 Being Taken Down from PSN and XBLA

Strange things are happening in the world of fighting games this week. Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 , perhaps the biggest fighting game in the fighting game community, will be taken down from the PSN and XBLA. This game, which was one of the headlining game at EVO, will no longer be available for digital purchase, nor will its DLC or patches be available for download. In essence, all support for the game will be dropped.

In addition to Marvel 3 , the re-released version of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 will also be taken down from the PSN/XBLA. This is a shame as this was, essentially, the definitive version of the classic, being used in all tournaments for the game since its release.

Capcom is currently having a sale on MVC3 DLC in the game’s last days, to allow users to purchase it before the game disappears. All DLC is currently available at 50% off. However, both games will be taken off the PSN on the 17 th (the 19 th for Europe), and XBLA on the 26 th .

Gamers aren’t particularly sure why such a popular game is being taken off digital markets. Many have theorized that Capcom has lost the license to Marvel characters and thus can no longer distribute or make any money off games with the Marvel brand. This has caused many gamers to ask Capcom to make an internal “ Capcom Fighting All-Stars ” style game, that only uses Capcom IPs, though personally we would love to see the return of Capcom vs. SNK .
