DayZ Alpha Nears 800,000 Sales Mark

DayZ Alpha Nears 800,000 Sales Mark

It’s rare that we hear a sales success story about a videogame before it is even release. Nonetheless that’s what is happening with the DayZ Alpha client. Creator Dean Hall has said that the game is nearing 800,000 sales before the final version has even released. Many videogames don’t do that well AFTER they have gone gold.

DayZ ’s standalone alpha was released on December 16 th , 2013 and sold a whopping 400,000 copies in its first week. Hall said the game would be a success if only 250,000 copies were sold, so everything from this point on is just gravy. Hall has also said that the positive response to the game and the ever growing number of sales will have a “very positive effect” on the game’s continuing development.

Hall has said that he and the DayZ team will be “finalizing their roadmap” in mid-January. While originally, the release of this alpha was meant to test the waters and see if there was still interest in the game, now a full production of the game is basically a given. Look forward to good news from Hall in the future.

Do note that even though the Alpha has sold remarkably well, it’s still an alpha. “It is a work in progress and therefore contains a variety of bugs,” says publisher Bohemia. “We strongly advise you not to buy and play the game at this stage unless you clearly understand what Early Access means and are interested in participating in the ongoing development cycle.”
