CD Projekt RED, the developer behind the Witcher series (the videogame adaptations of Andrzej Sapkowski’s book series) has partnered up with Fantasy Flight Games, one of the biggest companies that produce board games, to announce their collaborative effort in publishing The Witcher Adventure Game , a board game adaptation spin-off of the Witcher videogame series. I’ll leave you to go collect the socks that have now blown off your feet in excitement.
The Witcher Adventure Game will take you and a party of three other players on a journey through the world of The Witcher and its universe of hunting monsters, earning gold and partaking in social intrigue as you assume the role of one of four popular characters between you, taken from both the book series and the videogame series: Geralt of Rivia, a monster slayer; Dandelion, a roguish bard; Triss Merigold, a cunning sorceress; and Yarpen Zigrin, a dwarven warrior.
The two companies seem quite happy with their little partnership, with both of them looking forward to end result and how players will take to the game and how their adventures will pan out.
“Fantasy Flight Games has an outstanding connection with board game fans worldwide and is well known for the highest quality of their titles,” said Adam Badowski, Head of Studio, CD Projekt RED in a press release. “We’re really excited that we can join the party and expand The Witcher universe in such great company.”
“We are very pleased to partner with CD Projekt RED on The Witcher Adventure Game ,” commented Steve Horvath, Senior VP of Communication and Digital Business for Fantasy Flight Games in the same release. “The story and the setting of The Witcher really lends itself to an adventure board game. We’re looking forward to players being able to craft their own narrative during the course of the game.”
Each character has their own unique skills to utilise and they all have their own ways of overcoming obstacles, but the choice of engagement is ultimately up to the player of said character. The Witcher Adventure Game is said to have clear and simple rules and intuitive board mechanics. You can help your fellow player as the four of you venture off into your journey, but only one of you will be the winner.
The Witcher Adventure Game is slated for an early 2014 release, with pre-orders available right now. There will even be an Android and iOS version coming soon, but details on that have yet to be revealed. For more information on the board game, you can head on over to its official website here .
