Microsoft Dispels Rumours of a Halo Movie

Microsoft has confirmed to Eurogamer that the recent spell of rumors regarding another movie adaptation of the Halo franchise are false, and that the company has no plans to make a Halo movie at this current time.

A Microsoft representative sent a statement to Eurogamer on the matter, saying that while Microsoft is interested in expanding the media in which Halo is represented in, it currently does not plan to make a motion picture adaptation of the Halo franchise.

“The Halo franchise encompasses many elements, including games, action figures, novels and more,” the representative’s statement said. “As always, we have many projects in the works that offer us the opportunity to bring in new audiences to the franchise, as we did in the past with Halo Legends and Halo: Forward Unto Dawn . We plan to continue telling the Halo story through innovative channels, but there are no plans for a Halo motion picture at this time.”

The rumour apparently sprouted from suggestions that Alien director Ridley Scott was reported to be taking part in producing a feature-length digital Halo film, which was sparked by tweets from Production Weekly (according to Eurogamer). The only Halo adaptation that is confirmed is the upcoming Halo TV series, which is being worked on by 343 Industries, Steven Spielberg and Microsoft itself.

The meme of there being a Halo movie has been going on for quite some time now. I remember it first being a thing some number of years ago, then it wasn’t going to be a thing, then it was going to be a thing again, then it sort of just dropped off the radar, then District 9 happened. Kind of like the fabled World of Warcraft movie adaptation, though apparently that seems to be picking up speed now. Maybe one day we might actually see a Halo movie come to the big screen. Until then, however, at least we have the TV series to look forward to.
