Valve Launches SteamVR Beta

Valve Launches SteamVR Beta

The Oculus Rift is all the rage in the gaming world these days. Interest in virtual reality gaming couldn’t be higher unless it was the early 90’s and everyone was watching Reboot . Valve is hopping on board with a brand new mode for steam that supports virtual reality headsets like the Oculus Rift, entitled SteamVR.

Valve’s Joe Pudwig revealed more about the release on the official Steam Forums. “As of the most recent Steam Client Beta steam now supports an experimental VR mode,” he writes. “If you own an Oculus Rift dev kit you can try it out by starting Steam with “-vr” on the command line. Then press the Big Picture button to enter Big Picture + VR mode.”

The VR mode projects the Steam interface on a giant VR floating screen In front of you. In addition to being compatible with the Oculus Rift, the new VR Mode will likely be used with a VR Headset developed internally by Valve.
