Microsoft Calls Hardware Differences of the Xbox One and the PS4 “Marginal”

After a competitive launch cycle getting both the next-gen Xbox One and PS4 onto the market, gamers have had some time to feel out the systems. Now, after all the hype has died down, Microsoft is flat-out saying that they feel their console is not so different under the hood than its Sony counterpart.

In a recent interview, Alan Bowman (Microsoft’s VP of Australasian sales and marketing) had this to say regarding the differences in specs between the two systems, “We’re optimistic about this generation as well. We’ve got a unique value proposition, and from just a pure specs perspective it’s always gonna be fairly marginal difference. The purists are gonna argue the toss, but I think it comes down to the games. You’re gonna see great exclusive games on Xbox One, and when you look at the cross-platform games, and there’s gonna be exclusive content on Xbox One.”

While Bowman is leaning on the value of Xbox One exclusives, this isn’t the first time this debate has sprung up (as it takes root as far back as E3). On multiple occasions, Sony has claimed that the PS4 is far superior on the hardware performance side of the equation, a bold statement for sure, seeing as Microsoft should be standing on solid ground in that regard (they are a computer-tech company after all). However, Bowman feels that as their demographic changes, so will their consumer base and that Microsoft “…can’t let the tech be a barrier.”
