Resogun Nominated for Action Game of the Year

Resogun Nominated for Action Game of the Year

PlayStation 4 side-scroller exclusive Resogun has been nominated for Action Game of the Year at this year’s D.I.C.E. Summit awards, hosted by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences.

As part of the Academy’s annual award ceremony for best artistic achievements in videogames, Resogun was announced by its developer, Housemarque (Findland’s oldest videogame development studio), that the positively received shooter was nominated for the category alongside other hefty titles like Battlefield 4 , DmC , BioShock Infinite and Dead Rising 3 .

“It’s a great honor to be nominated, especially in the same year when Eugene Jarvis will be given the Pioneer Award ,” commented Ilari Kuittinen, Housemarque’s CEO in this story’s press release. “Without his work on Defender , RESOGUN wouldn’t exist and Housemarque could have gone in a very different direction. Back in the days this genre was all the rage, and we are committed to carry on the legacy of Jarvis and other arcade pioneers like him.”

Over 22,000 members voted on behalf of the Academy, and the prizes for the nominees will be awarded in early February, Tuesday 4th to Thursday 6th, in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Resogun is one of those throwback videogames that draw inspiration from older side-scrolling shooter titles mixed in with Geometry Wars , and has incredibly flashy effects to boot. It was released exclusively on the PS4 at the consoles launch back in mid November, 2013.
