Nintendo 3DS Sales Reach 15 Million in Japan Alone

Nintendo 3DS Sales Reach 15 Million in Japan Alone

If it wasn’t clear that Nintendo has totally won the handheld wars this generation, here are yet more numbers for you to crunch on. According to Famitsu, The Nintendo 3DS has surpassed 15 million sales since its release. Granted, these figures include both the 3DS and 3DSXL so there is a bit of doubling up going on. But regardless, that’s an incredibly impressive figure, especially when combined with its sales here in the US.

That being said, sales for the 3DS were down from last year, and this coupled with Nintendo’s poor Wii U sales has lead them to think of other business models. Many are speculating that Nintendo will end up releasing some of their smaller games as apps on the mobile phones and other smart devices. Others think that they will release demos on these platforms which are meant to draw users to the full product. Nintendo has shot down many of these speculations, but they are still expected to make an important announcement this Thursday.
