Sony May Release PS Vita Slim in Western Territories

Sony May Release PS Vita Slim in Western Territories

A cryptic invitation has been sent out to games journalists recently, asking them to attend a Sony event showcasing “the slimmest launch in PlayStation history. While Sony hasn’t come out and said what this is referring to, most have speculated that they are talking about the PlayStation Vita slim.

The PlayStation Vita Slim is currently only available in Japan. It launched there in early October and had a decent sales bump, though it still did not overtake the powerhouse that is the 3DS. The unit is twenty percent thinner, fifteen percent lighter, and does away with the stupid proprietary charge port in lieu of a standard Micro-USB port. This is great, because it means you can use all your leftover phone chargers as a Vita connection cable. Battery life is also a bit better, clocking in at about an hour longer than the original Vita’s battery life. Unfortunately, the slim does away with the Vita’s HD OLED screen in favor of a more power efficient LCD display. The slim also includes a 1GB internal storage, which is great for people who are still burned by Sony’s decision to use a proprietary memory card format.

Will this be enough to revive the Vita market? Will it allow it to compete with the 3DS. Only time will tell. We will bring you more information on the release of the PS Vita slim as it becomes available.
