Satoru Iwata Cuts Salary In Half To Apologize For Wii U Losses

Satoru Iwata Cuts Salary In Half To Apologize For Wii U Losses

So, Nintendo isn’t doing so hot. Nintendo has announced an operating loss of nearly $15 million dollars, which is absolutely huge. However, in a move that is nearly unheard of in American business practices, the people who are going to get hit hardest by this will be Nintendo’s highest ranking bosses.

Satoru Iwata has just announced that he will be cutting his salary in half to apologize for the Wii U’s failure. In addition, other members of Nintendo’s board of directors will be taking pay cuts of between 20 and 30 percent. Nintendo has, miraculously, not announced any layoffs as a result of the Wii U sales flop.

For those of you who don’t remember, Nintendo originally planned to ship 9 million Wii U’s last fiscal year. They recently adjusted that estimate to 2.8 million WII U’s. According to Nintendo’s official sales numbers, only a little over 5 million Wii U’s have been sold as of now. That’s all Wii U sales in total! It’s far below the 9 million mark Nintendo expected for last fiscal year.

Tomorrow, Nintendo is expected to announce a new business strategy for the Wii U. Perhaps a price cut? We will have to wait and see.
