Amazon Buys Killer Instinct Developer Double Helix

Amazon Buys Killer Instinct Developer Double Helix

Amazon–yes that Amazon–the same company you buy books , furniture, and flavored soda syrups from, has acquired Double Helix, the developer behind Killer Instinct . What does this mean for the game’s future? Well, Double Helix won’t be making the game anymore. Instead, Microsoft will be working with “a new development partner.”

“We have thoroughly enjoyed working with Double Helix and wish them success in their next endeavor,” a Microsoft spokesperson said. “We want all of our loyal fans to know that the Killer Instinct team at Microsoft is not changing and that the franchise will remain with Microsoft Studios. We remain dedicated to delivering a great experience and plan to announce our new development partner soon. We’re excited about the future of this popular franchise.”

As for Amazon, there are rumors going around that say Amazon will be launching their own dedicated gaming device that will compete with Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony’s consoles. The device would sell for a bargain rate, around $200, but would play all next gen games. More importantly, the console would include streaming services built in, allowing users to get games, movies, music, and more at the press of a button.
