In yet another study aimed at dragging video games back into the games=violence debate, we’re now being told that too much time spent with violent video games among youths can affect their outlook on morality.
The study (which was conducted at Brock University in Ontario and can be found here ) possess several questions such as, “…what are adolescents’ video game playing patterns and habits, what attitudes and feelings do adolescents report during and after violent video game playing and what beliefs do adolescents describe about violence in video games and violence in real life,” among others.
During testing, adolescents were allowed to choose from a wide variety of games (with both Call of Duty and Mario being chosen the most among the sample group). While the study shows that those who played games with a less-violent tilt (which is identified as a game where killing an opponent occurs) showed fewer signs of after effects, it does conclude that the sense of “moral maturity” in some teenagers shifted due to extended playtimes of franchises like Call of Duty .
