The Banner Saga Becomes a Part of York’s JORVIK Viking Festival

The Banner Saga Becomes a Part of York’s JORVIK Viking Festival

Announced in a press release yesterday (February 11), the independent development studio Stoic have partnered up with the the UK-based JORVIK Viking Centre to showcase the studio’s game The Banner Saga at this year’s JORVIK Viking Festival in York.

The showcasing will take place on Parliament Street, from February 20 (Thursday) through to February 22 (Saturday), and the opening hours will be from 10:00am to 5:00pm. The JORVIK Viking Festival itself will be taking place from February 15 through to February 23.

Visitors attending will get a chance to experience The Banner Saga first hand, and in addition to experiencing the game hands-on, they will also be able to receive a special The Banner Saga discount code, which they’ll be able to redeem through Steam. Additionally, if visitors come dressed as a warrior from Norse mythology they’ll have the opportunity to be randomly selected to win a prize.

The Banner Saga is a single player-driven Viking saga that is an interesting interpretation of ancient Norse mythology, where player choice determines the outcome of the player’s respective story and the survival of an entire civilization. The game is presented in a disarmingly pleasing 2D design, with rotoscoped animation and a memorable tonal aesthetic.

Recently, The Banner Saga was under scrutiny from social-casual mobile developer King , which was requesting that Stoic remove the word “saga” from their title for the contrived reason of preventing confusion with their Bejewelled-like casual game Candy Crush Saga . Fortunately, Stoic is sticking to their guns and will not be changing The Banner Saga’s title any time soon.

The Banner Saga is available on Steam, UPlay, GameFly, GameStop and Gamers Gate for PC and Mac, with a pricetag of £19.99 (or your regional equivalent). A digital deluxe version is also available through selected retailers, which includes the game and its complete soundtrack for £22.99 (or your regional equivalent).
