New SOMA “Theta” Trailer Showcases Environments and Dialogue

New SOMA “Theta” Trailer Showcases Environments and Dialogue

Frictional Games, most notably known for it’s horror game Amnesia: The Dark Descent , has released a new trailer to its upcoming sci-fi horror game SOMA , set to drop in 2015 for PC and PlayStation 4. Frictional has been very silent about the details of SOMA , as there is little information about the game outside of what the developer has already released before in its previous trailers.

The first trailer for SOMA was released back in early October, 2013. The trailer featured a very large monitor that was hooked up to very thick cables (named Item #2656, nicknamed “Vivarium”), and a woman who appeared to trying to turn the massive machine on or trying to get it to work in a specific way.

The second trailer was in a similar narrative style, where the same woman was questioning what appeared to be near-completely disassembled machine, a machine that seemed to have sentience (Item #4017, “Mockingbird”). At the end of the trailer, the dialogue seemed to infer a possible theme behind SOMA , that of a duplicated soul: the human soul and a duplicate of the same soul being inside a machine, both of which have no knowledge or recognition of each other.

SOMA ’s first gameplay teaser trailer was released soon after, and revealed that the game could be taking on the theme of transferring the human consciousness into a machine without them knowing; that’s only this author’s personal subjective speculation however. The trailer also featured what kind of environments that may appear in SOMA , environments that seem to be inspired by the works of H.R. Giger or Ridley Scott’s Alien .

SOMA’s latest trailer, named “Theta”, showcased more environments that may appear in the final game, environments that look like your typical seemingly abandoned sci-fi research facility. Throughout the trailer featured a conversation between two people, one whom of which sounded like she was stressing about something of overarching importance. She could perhaps be the same woman who appeared in the previous trailers. The trailer can be viewed below.
