Masahiro Sakurai Reveals Little Mac’s Tilt Smash Mechanics

Masahiro Sakurai Reveals Little Mac’s Tilt Smash Mechanics

Masahiro Sakurai recently unveiled lots of new information pertaining to Little Mac in Smash Bros. Specifically, Sakurai talked about Mac’s forward smash. Normally, when smashing, Mac throws a quick straight punch. This punch does decent damage and decent knock-back. However, if Mac tilts in a different direction before the smash goes off, he can change the move. Tilting up allows Mac to throw an uppercut which does reduced damage but has lots of knock-back. Tilting down causes Mac to do a body blow which does lots of damage but doesn’t knock the opponent back at all, setting Mac up for interesting combo opportunities.

Tilt smashes are still kind of a new thing. Fans may remember that you could tilt smash Snake’s up-smash in brawl, but few other characters had this mechanic. However, characters have been able to change the heights of their tilts for quite some time. Mario’s forward tilt, for example, can be angeled slightly up or slightly down.

We will bring you more information on mechanics in the new Smash Bros. as they become available.
